The Ambush are fresh out of Blueprint Studios

March 5th, 2008 by Giles Smith

The Ambush @ Night and DayThe Ambush have just finished recording 2 new tracks; Out My Mind and Blackspot at Blueprint Studios.

At the moment, I am preparing a new website for the band at www.theambush.co.uk where you will be able to keep up to date with all the bands progress, gigs, new tracks, albums etc.

Till the new website is ready you can listen to and find out about the band at their myspace page

The Ambush have recently re-organised and have got their hands on some new members, new input and now some new tracks, they also play regularly around Manchester so find out where they are next and get down there!

I recently saw them at Night & Day (picture) and they were really good, even though they weren’t the headlining act, their set outstripped all others for energy and brilliance!

UPDATE: The Ambush are playing at Dry Bar (Oldham St, Manchester) on Friday 7th March 2008. Get tickets here

May I present the singing tesla coils

November 10th, 2007 by Giles Smith

You know, every now and again, I get a little bored. When that happens I occasionally find myself hunting down obscure videos that are capable of inducing any kind of emotional response.

I think I may have found one video that shines out to me far brighter than any other. Do you know what a Tesla Coil is? If you don’t then Wikipedia can shed some light on them for you.

If you are willing to spend a lot of time and effort thinking, as well as working through some rather complicated mathematics you can tune the sound of a sparking coil to a certain pitch. Now for just one pitch this would be rather impracticle when we have sound synthesizers that can do it instantly, but if you want to put a little more work in you could make it play a tune.

But if you really wanted to show off, you could set up 2 Tesla coils together and make them play a stirring duet!
